'Ole Kū Lua
'Ole Kū Lua
The Hawaiian word for this phase of the Moon, or Mahina, is 'Ole Kū Lua. It is the second of a three-day period during the month that is considered to be poor for planting and fishing so farmers use the time to weed and tidy up. This image is a mosaic of over 30 individual pictures which themselves are created by stacking together over 100 individual pictures. All totaled, more than 3,000 pictures went in to creating this single image taken on the summit of Maunakea.
