An early season snow storm rolled through the Crested Butte area depositing 3-6" inches of snow in the surrounding mountains. World famous photographer Nick Selway and I four-wheeled out a remote (and bumpy) country road to photograph the results at sunset. As evening approached, we didn't think we would get great light so we pulled over to a flat area to photograph aspen trees in the fog/clouds. I was shooting to the east when I took a peek west and saw that the sky had blown up into blazing hues of red, orange, pinks and more. I shouted some expletive out of pure shock and excitement and immediately re-trained my camera on the mountains to the west. The light show was nothing short of spectacular.
